Elijah of Vilna, or by his Hebrew acronym HaGra (“HaGaon Rabbenu Eliyahu”: “The sage, our teacher, Elijah”) or Elijah Ben Solomon (Sialiec, April 23, 1720 – Vilnius October 9, 1797), was a Talmudist, halakhist, kabbalist, and the foremost leader of misnagdic (non-hasidic) Jewry of the past few centuries. He is commonly referred to in Hebrew as ha-Gaon he-Chasid mi-Vilna, “the pious genius from Vilnius”

This very nice first day cover from Germany was sent by Ulf, thank you! It was posted in Berlin on August 4 and arrived on September 12, 2022. The stamp is a youth welfare stamp and commemorates the fire salamander (Salamandra salamandra).

This amazing registered cover from Madagascar was sent by Martin, thank you very much! It was posted in Mananara on September 6 and arrived on October 2, 2023. The top stamps commemorate the Jonah’s mouse lemur (Microcebus jonahi), a species of the comet orchids (Angraecum sororium), and a species of the Catharanthus family.

The stamps depict the birds belted kingfisher (Megaceryle alcyon), the giant kingfisher (Megaceryle maxima), and the grey-headed kingfisher (Halcyon leucocephala).
